The day I arrived in Madrid, everything was new to me. I had never traveled alone and I had never taken such a long flight. I hadn’t spoken Spanish outside of class either. But I had already booked a room and I had studied the subway map. My teacher had told me: “Talk to everyone.” That afternoon I ordered my first coffee in Spanish and the waiter understood me. It was a small big moment.
